Dr Renier completed his Medical Degree at the University of Pretoria in 1998.
He started his anaesthesia training at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria and furthered his training as a registrar in Anaesthesia in the United Kingdom at The Princess Royal Hospital and Shrewsbury Hospital, as part of the Stoke on Tent School of Anaesthesia. He completed his Specialty training in Anaesthesia at UCT in 2007.
In 2009 he joined the Cardiac and Transoesophageal Echocardiography Fellowship program in Leicester, United Kingdom, where he also completed the European Society of Cardiology certification exam in Transoesophageal Echocardiography. In 2012 he joined the Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Unit at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, as a Consultant, where he obtained valuable experience in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Transplant Surgery and Cardiac assist devices.
Dr Renier has been actively involved in Minimally Invasive and Port Access surgery Research at the University of Cape Town and is also an Honorary Lecturer at UCT. His main interest are in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia.
Dr Renier has been an associate member of Atlantic Anaesthetics since 2009.
In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, cycling and running.
