After undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch and specialising at the University of Cape Town, Matthew was a consultant at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for almost 7 years. He joined Atlantic in 2023, and his main interests are cardiothoracic anaesthesia, point-of-care ultrasound and patient blood management. He is an examiner with the College of Anaesthetists and an honorary lecturer at the University of Cape Town.
